The worst punishment my brother and I ever got was for misbehaving in church. It was sheer torture to be inside on summer days--I could see a tantalizing patch of sunshine through a small window at the back. Even then, I knew I'd personally feel far more worshipful outside in the creation than I'd ever feel in a stuffy church building.
The grown-ups took church way too seriously. I completely understand that feeling of being cooped up in a musty hot church when all you want is fresh air and sunshine. And yes! I always quote Frank Lloyd Wright: "I believe in god, only I spell it N-A-T-U-R-E."
