If you wanna make the universe laugh, make a plan
It’s Juneteenth, and for my late partner, it was a day of contradictions. John used to get contemplative on Juneteenth: Is it a happy celebration? Can you really be happy about enslaved people finally being freed over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation?
It’s a fair question. But when John asked it of a vendor at a Juneteenth celebration, things didn’t quite go as planned. And I’d argue that John knew they wouldn’t, which was part of what enticed him to engage. You can read more about it here:
